The MDCAT entry test paper for Medical and Dental College in Larkana was leaked before the exam, with reports emerging that key players were selling answer sheets to students for significant sums, ranging from Rs 1 million to Rs 1.2 million. This revelation came just hours before the scheduled test, exposing a widespread cheating operation.
Today, approximately 4,812 candidates are set to take the exam, including 2,591 male and 2,211 female students. The Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Test (MDCAT), being conducted under the supervision of the University of Health Sciences, is taking place across 30 cities and two international locations. In Punjab alone, 12 cities are hosting the test at 26 centers, with a total of 82,500 candidates participating.
In a bid to curb cheating and ensure fairness, authorities have cut off mobile and internet services around all 26 centers within a 500-meter radius from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm, aiming to prevent any external aid during the exam.
In Karachi, two primary centers have been established at NED University and Dow University Ojha Campus, where 12,846 candidates are expected, with 6,000 at NED and 6,846 at Dow University.
To further secure the process, the Sindh Home Department has enforced Section 144 around exam venues, prohibiting mobile phones, wallets, and electronic devices. Mobile signals will be jammed to deter malpractice. Students are allowed to enter between 7 am and 9 am, with the exam running from 10 am to 1:30 pm.
Karachi’s medical and dental colleges offer 858 seats, with 746 for open merit and 112 for self-financed candidates. Despite the paper leak scandal, authorities are striving to ensure the exam proceeds smoothly.
