Punjab Schools Announce New Timings
In response to escalating health risks from worsening smog conditions, authorities in Punjab have announced new school timings across the province. The Punjab Environmental Protection Authority announced the revised schedule and accompanying guidelines on Wednesday.
Beginning October 28 and continuing until January 31, 2025, schools will start classes at 8:45 AM. School administrations have been instructed to hold student assemblies indoors to minimize exposure to outdoor pollution.
Additionally, citizens are encouraged to limit outdoor activities, keep windows and doors shut to reduce exposure to contaminated air, wear masks, and ensure their vehicles meet fitness standards. To mitigate pollution, all fireworks activities have been prohibited until the end of January 2025.
Lahore has once again been identified as the most polluted city in the world, with the air quality index (AQI) soaring to a hazardous level of 503, according to the latest IQAir data. This marks a deterioration from previous days, raising alarms about the health implications for residents.
Medical professionals are urging individuals with respiratory conditions, such as asthma and allergies, to take extra precautions to safeguard their health against the impacts of severe air pollution.
