Primary Schools in Islamabad to Teach Artificial Intelligence

Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training has introduced a new curriculum for Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI).It will be taught in primary schools across the capital from grades 1 to 5.

The education ministry stated that this new curriculum aims to equip students with essential IT and AI skills, providing them with a solid foundation and preparing them for future technological advancements.

Ministry added that the curriculum is designed to open up promising career paths in technology and AI for students as they advance.

“This curriculum is a living document that will be regularly updated to reflect the latest advancements in technology and AI,” a statement said. The statement further added that “it aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in an increasingly digital world.”

Education Secretary Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani announced that the National Curriculum Council created the new curriculum, which will be implemented in all schools next month.

He added that the new curriculum would begin in the third week of August, once computer experts are hired. In addition to the standard curriculum, students will receive supplementary education in IT and AI.

“After completing primary education, our students will develop a know-how about computer navigation, keyboarding, core Apps and software, basic computer maintenance, basic coding etc,” he said.

Secretary added that in AI, students would learn fundamental concepts and applications, which will help build their curiosity, critical thinking skills, and ethical awareness about AI technologies.

The federal secretary said that no exams would be conducted for the IT and AI curriculum to prevent stress on students, adding that the aim is to learn these skills enjoyably and engagingly.
