Thousands of Teachers to Be Reinstated Across Punjab
The Punjab government announced on Saturday the immediate reinstatement of thousands of District Teacher Educators (DTEs) after an eight-year gap, as reported by 24NewsHD TV channel.
The Secretary of Schools Education has also issued directives for their restoration. Currently, 4,560 DTEs are working as teachers across Punjab, including 113 in Lahore.
Back in 2017, the Punjab government discontinued the DTE program, assigning them to various schools as regular teachers. With their reinstatement, the DTEs will resume providing training to teachers across the province.
In a related development, the Punjab government lifted the ban on teacher transfers in June 2024. According to reports, teachers must have a seniority number to apply for transfers, and those without one cannot submit online applications.
Female teachers, in particular, have raised concerns over being required to visit offices to obtain their seniority numbers and have demanded the removal of this condition. Additionally, teachers must serve at least three years in their current school to be eligible for a transfer, as those with less tenure will not qualify.
