Threatening Messages Forced Gomal University To Close Indefinitely
Gomal University’s administration has closed the institute indefinitely after PTI leader Ali Amin Gandapur pressed its Vice-Chancellor (VC) to resign.
Gomal University will continue the academic process by holding online classes for all departments, institutes, centers, schools, and constituent colleges, according to details.
The decision was made during a meeting of the university’s syndicate to evaluate all options following the political interference. The meeting decided that the university’s top priority is to keep the institute peaceful and secure for its students.
The conflict between VC Gomal University and the PTI leader began in July of this year when the provincial government allocated Rs. 3.1 billion for the establishment of an agriculture university in DI Khan.
The agriculture university will be built on 1,000 kanals of Gomal University land and will be established by upgrading Gomal University’s Agriculture Department, which the VC strongly opposes.
The refusal of VC Gomal University, Dr. Iftikhar Shah, to transfer the university’s assets to the agriculture university irritated Gandapur, who is also from DI Khan.
Gandapur organized a protest against the VC to force the transfer of Gomal University’s assets, which turned violent after students vandalized the VC’s official vehicle and university property.
Furthermore, Gandapur sent voice messages to the VC, threatening him with eviction if he did not resign peacefully. The former also stated that he has no fears and challenged the VC to take the matter to any appropriate forum.
As a result, Dr. Iftikhar recently wrote letters to the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the Prime Minister, and the Interior Minister, informing them of the political personality’s threats.
