A new scandal involving the management of Higher Secondary School Certificates (HSSC) answer sheets has emerged at the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE).

According to board sources, a recent scanning process uncovered that some HSSC answer sheets had been replaced with new ones. This issue is concerning, particularly as the HSSC annual results will be announced next month.

The sources added that each page of the answer sheets has a QR code, which allowed the IT system to spot the replacements when they were processed. There are allegations that 62 answer sheets were replaced, but these were only discovered later.

It is pertinent to mention that the scanning was done by loaders hired for the job. When the issue was discovered, several loaders were dismissed to cover it up.

A board official called for the proper inquiry to determine “if this all was done to favor a select group of students or it was a human error.”

According to Joint Secretary of Education Syed Junaid Ikhlaq, an investigation has already been launched. “I was told that during the scanning process, answer sheets of a few students, maybe 32 pages, were replaced by some loaders, who have already been removed,” he said.

Mr. Ikhlaq says that the issue will not impact the HSSC results, as it was identified by the board in time. After scanning, the answer sheets are sent to paper checkers for evaluation before the final results are announced.
