MDCAT 2024: Major Paper Leak Scandal
The MDCAT entry test paper for Medical and Dental Colleges in Larkana has been compromised just hours before the exam, with reports of a criminal network selling answer keys to students for staggering amounts between Rs 1 million and Rs 1.2 million each. This alarming revelation highlights a significant cheating operation that has surfaced in the lead-up to the test.
Today, approximately 4,812 candidates, including 2,591 males and 2,211 females, are set to take the exam. The Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Test (MDCAT), supervised by the University of Health Sciences, is taking place across 30 cities and two international centers. In Punjab, the test is being conducted in 12 cities at 26 centers, accommodating a total of 82,500 candidates.
To combat cheating and maintain a fair testing environment, authorities have suspended mobile and internet services within a 500-meter radius of all 26 exam centers from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm, effectively blocking any external assistance during the exam.
In Karachi, two major centers have been established at NED University and Dow University Ojha Campus, with a total of 12,846 candidates expected—6,000 at NED and 6,846 at Dow University.
The Sindh Home Department has implemented strict measures by enforcing Section 144 around the exam centers, which prohibits mobile phones, wallets, and other electronic devices. Mobile signals will also be jammed to deter any malpractice. Candidates can only enter the exam halls between 7 am and 9 am, with the examination scheduled from 10 am to 1:30 pm.
Karachi’s medical and dental colleges offer a total of 858 seats, consisting of 746 for open merit and 112 for self-financed students. Despite the recent scandal surrounding the paper leak, authorities are committed to ensuring a smooth and secure exam experience for all candidates.
