Sindh Students Await Free Books Two Weeks After School Starts

Due to administrative delays and heavy rains, government school students are yet to receive their free textbooks in Sindh, despite the new academic year starting on August 15.

The Sindh government’s slogan, “Parhay Ga Sindh tau Barhay Ga Sindh,” seems distant for many impoverished families. Parents are struggling due to the unfulfilled promise of free textbooks and copies, which were assured during admission but have yet to be delivered.

Many low-income families enroll their children in government schools to save on education costs, but they are often disappointed.

Each year, parents are assured that textbooks will be provided, yet they frequently end up purchasing them from the open market at high prices to avoid interrupting their children’s education.

According to the parents, the Directorate of Education has stated that textbooks have not yet been printed by the Sindh Textbook Board, causing the delay. Meanwhile, while free textbooks are unavailable in public schools, they are being sold openly in the market.
