Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Extends Winter Holidays
The Education Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has announced a week-long extension to winter vacation for all schools across the province, citing the ongoing extreme cold, according to a notification issued Monday.
The decision comes as temperatures in the province continue to drop, raising concerns about the health and safety of students who face freezing conditions during early morning commutes to school. Schools will now reopen on January 7 instead of January 1.
Previously, KP authorities had scheduled winter break from December 22 to December 31 for schools in plain areas. In contrast, schools in hilly regions were set to remain closed from December 22 through February 28 due to harsher weather conditions.
Meanwhile, in Punjab, public and private schools are observing a 20-day winter vacation. These began on December 23, 2024, and are set to end on Friday, January 10, 2025.
